When you want to recover from your eating disorder, anxiety or depression, you can’t think in global terms like I want to be happy or I want to be comfortable with my body. Wanting these things is great but you need to get specific if you want to see any real change.
4 things to do to get started:
- Get out a pad and make a list of all the difficult times you encounter in a day.
- On a separate page make a list of all the coping skills you use such as deep breathing, journaling, stretching, etc.
- On the third page schedule your day. Be specific even to the point of scheduling time to get dressed and eat.
- Now fill in the coping skills you’ve chosen between your activities.
Doing this should help you successfully get through your day with less hardship. Making time for self-care within your day will ease your eating disorder symptoms, anxiety and or depression.
Doing this over a period of time will create healthier lasting patterns and change.
Please share your use of this technique.
